A total of 75 buildings were nominated for this bi-ennial Awards scheme from all parts of the UK. Each building was assessed against a wide range of relevant criteria and awarded a 5, 4 or 3 star grading certificate.

The Building Cleanability Awards are run in association with Awards Patron, The British Cleaning Council, with further sponsorship provided by: The British Institute of Cleaning Science; ISS UK; Karcher UK; LCC Support Services and Mayflower Washroom Solutions.

The Awards are also supported by a number of professional bodies involved in building construction or management, including The Cleaning and Support Services Association; The Chartered Institute of Building; The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; The Health and Safety Executive; The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management; The British Institute of Facilities Management and The Royal Institute of British Architects.

“We received a wide selection of building nominations for our 2007/2008 Awards scheme”, quotes Awards Chairman, Graham Jones. “This confirms our view that architects are beginning to appreciate that design features and materials which impact significantly on cost effective building cleaning need to be considered at the early stages of any building project. Our hope is that building occupiers will add their support to this Awards scheme since it is the staff and visitors of a building who feel the effects of poor building cleanability”.
