Nationwide Search for Cleaning Friendly Buildings

Nominations are being sought for the 2004 Building Cleanability Awards throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Awards, promoted by the cleaning industry Livery Company - The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners - ar aimed to draw attention to the increasingly important relationship between effective cleaning and good building design - its 'cleanability'.

The British Cleaning Council is patron of the Awards, with further sponsorship provide by The British Institute of Cleaning Science. The Cleaning and Support Services Association, cleaning machine manufacturers Karcher (UK) and personal protection and contractors site equipments distributor, Greenham.

The Awards are also supported for the first time this year by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and The British Institute of Facilities Management.

There are eight entry categories, covering commercial, public, education, transport, heritage, retail, health and leisure buildings anywhere in the UK. Nominations can be made by building owners, architects, occupiers or contractors, as well as building management or construction companies - up until 31st December 2003.

All buildings entered for a Cleanability Award will receive a detailed assessment visit by a qualified Awards assessor, followed by a Cleanability Grading Certificate. There will be a National Awards for each category of entry, together with an overall Gold, Silver and Bronze trophy for the top three buildings.

Last year's overall winner was the AA Headquarters building at Southwood, Farnborough.

There are two new Special Awards for this year's competition - one for new build projects and one for refurbishments projects, both completed within twelve months of occupation.

A prestigious Awards Presentation Luncheon will take place on Monday 12th July 2004, at London's famous Guildhall.
