UK buildings honoured for their cleaning friendly designThe White Rose Shopping Centre, in Leeds, has won the Gold Award in The 2004 Building Cleanability Awards scheme, promoted by the cleaning industry Livery Company – The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners. [Read the full results schedule...] Runner-up was Castlegate House, Dudley, picking up the Silver Award, ahead of Granite House, Leicester which won the Bronze Award. Other major Winners were: Drake Electronics, Cambridge – Special Award for New Build Project; Daimler Chrysler UK, Milton Keynes – Special Award for Refurbishment Project. National Category Winners were: Citypoint, London – Commercial; London Business School - Education; Remel House, Dartford – Health; HM Treasury, London – Heritage; Lighthouse Centre for the Arts, Poole – Leisure; The International Convention Centre, Birmingham – Public Buildings; Princes Quay Shopping Centre, Hull – Retail and Edinburgh Airport – Transport. The Awards were presented by The Lord Mayor of London Alderman Robert Finch, at a Luncheon held in the Great Hall at London’s famous Guildhall, attended by over 300 guests. A total of twenty three buildings nominated were awarded a five star cleanability grading, seventeen received a four star and a further fourteen received a three star Award. The Building Cleanability Awards are run in association with The British Cleaning Council with further sponsorship provided by The British Institute of Cleaning Science, The Cleaning and Support Services Association, Greenham, a trading division of Bunzl Outsourcing and Karcher UK. The 2004 Awards were also supported for the first time by The British Institute of Facilities Management and The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. “These Awards are designed to focus attention on the important relationship between building design, material usage and cleaning effectiveness”, quotes Awards Chairman Stephen Wright. “This is the fifth biennial scheme we have run and the steady increase in the number of building nominations received, is testimony to the fact that more people associated with building design, construction and management are recognising the cost benefits associated with cleaning friendly buildings.” Full results are posted on this website. 12 July 2004 |
